Dinner in the historic vaulted cellar of the “Moritzbastei” on 30 May 2016

The “Moritzbastei” is probably the biggest student club in Europe and the most distinctive cultural and event centre in the city centre of Leipzig. It is in close proximity to the “Augustusplatz”, one of the largest city squares in Germany, which is located between “Gewandhaus zu Leipzig” and the University Leipzig. The subterranean vault was built in the 16th century as part of the ancient town fortifications of Leipzig. During World War II this area was destroyed. However, between 1974 and 1984, students of Leipzig worked voluntarily in order to rebuild it; among them was Angela Merkel, the current German Federal Chancellor. Today there are terraces, inner courtyards, bars, cafes and event rooms which invite guests to visit.
