Welcome to the City of Leipzig

Leipzig is the centre for culture, economy, education, trade and traffic in central Germany.

In 2015 the metropolis full of tradition and with almost 600,000 inhabitants celebrated the 1000th anniversary of its first mentioning. In 1989 the city became internationally known as starting point of the peaceful revolution, which helped to overcome the division of Germany.

Furthermore, Leipzig is also internationally known for its tradition of being a university-, trade fair-, book- and music city. Even today the Leipzig Book Fair is closely linked to the former leading position of Leipzig as a centre of book production, publishing and book trade.

The St. Thomas Choir of Leipzig “Thomanerchor“ and the Orchestra “Gewandhausorchester” with their long history are related to the composers Johann Sebastian Bach and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy.

Next to the Leipzig-Halle Airport, there is also one of the biggest and most traditional railway stations in the world right in the city centre.

Finally, the good connection to the motorway (Autobahn) ensures that Leipzig is recognized as a perfect place for conferences and congresses.
